Inside HTI

See the process.

A look inside the plant — the furnaces, the loading, and the discipline behind every lot.

What We Do

Specialized processes. Exceptional results.

From hardening high-carbon steel to beryllium copper age hardening, HTI handles the applications other heat treaters turn away.

Austempering

The process HTI was built on. An isothermal transformation to bainite for greater toughness and ductility at a given hardness — with far less distortion than conventional quench and temper.

Bainitic · low distortion

Stress Relieving

Reduces the internal stresses introduced during fabrication and forming, without compromising the integrity of the finished part.

Post-fabrication

Age Hardening — Beryllium Copper

Precipitation hardening of beryllium copper: Alloy 25 (C172) and Alloy 165 (C170), taken from H temper to HT temper.

C172 · C170 · H → HT

Rust Prevention

Post-treatment oil dip and spin for clean, corrosion-protected parts ready for the next operation.

Oil dip & spin

Material Range

Carbon and alloy steels from AISI 1045 through 1095, plus 4130, 4140, 5160, E52100 and more — parts from 0.005″ to 0.150″ thick.

1045–1095 · 4140 · E52100

Flexible Loading

Hand-placed, hand-sprinkled, bulk-loaded with computerized autoloaders, or sample-bagged for prototypes — from first article to millions of parts.

Prototype → production

Why Austempering

Austempering vs. conventional heat treating.

Not every heat treater can austemper well. HTI has built an entire company around mastering the one process — backed by on-site technical staff who help solve difficult, high-precision applications.

+10 pts
Harder (Rockwell C) at ductility equal to conventionally treated material.
Zero
Hydrogen embrittlement — eliminated by the salt-quench process.
Less
Distortion and cracking versus conventional quench and temper.
Clean
Salt-quenched surface, ideal for subsequent plating.
